Four zones at a glance
Wulingyuan: Forest Park, Tianzi, Yuanjiajie, Golden Whip Stream, Huangshizhai—the pillar-peak heartland. Stay 1–2 nights in a row.
Downtown + Tianmen: cableway lower station is near the city—ideal for a city hotel or a dedicated Tianmen day.
Grand Canyon: relatively separate; plan a half to full day, usually not the same day as deep Wulingyuan hiking.
Phoenix Ancient Town: about 3–5 hours away—an Xiangxi extension, not a same-day Wulingyuan round trip.
Classic route logic
Route A: 3 days peaks + Tianmen
2 nights in Wulingyuan → Yuanjiajie/Tianzi → stream or Huangshizhai → transfer to city for Tianmen. Map shape: north core + south Tianmen.
Route B: 4 days + Grand Canyon
Insert a Grand Canyon day into Route A; start early for round-trip driving time.
Route C: 5 days to Phoenix
Finish nature in 3–4 days, then 1–2 nights in Phoenix—night views deserve an overnight.
Transport & hotel bases
Airport/rail hubs sit near the city. Sleep downtown first night then enter Wulingyuan, or go straight to a Wulingyuan hotel. Eco-buses and park shuttles move you inside; walking transfers are common.
Phone maps help find gates, but inside parks follow official maps and signs. Pick up or download the latest park guide on entry.
Map-planning rules
- One main zone per day—don’t force Wulingyuan and Phoenix together.
- Split Tianmen and Wulingyuan across days for energy and tickets.
- Don’t schedule hard hikes on long-haul arrival/departure days.
